What are Training 4 Life's credentials?
Training4life / Workplace First Aid is a trading name of Adventure First Aid Ltd. Training4life is accredited to deliver HSE approved First Aid Training through Immediate Temporary Care (HSE Number 1670/96) We are also accredited to deliver QCA accredited courses through ITC First Aid Ltd who are regulated by OFQUAL. Our trainers are all dedicated professional who hold a teaching qualification, are members of the Institute for Learning, undergo regular observations, evaluation and external verification. All our trainers have experience of administering First Aid and Casualty Care as members of Rescue Teams and on a voluntary basis for the Ambulance Service. Guy Risdon is an External verifier for the awarding body ITC First Aid Ltd and involved in course design, unit writing and the delivery of the First Aid Trainer induction programme.
Who regulates or accredits courses you provide or is it your own?
Our HSE courses are regulated by the HSE who accredit training organisations through FAAMS. Training for Life is accredited to deliver these courses under the licence given by the HSE. Courses that appear on the National Qualifications Framework are accredited by ITC First Aid Ltd who are a QCA awarding body.
What qualifcations do the Trainers have?
All our trainers hold a minimum of; HSE First Aid at Work, Teaching Qualification, Membership of the Institute for Learning. At Training for Life we insist on our trainers undergoing Advanced First Aid Training as part of voluntary
How often are Training 4 Life externally verified?
ITC First Aid Ltd Requires training organisations to be externally verified at least once a year.
What CPD do the Trainers do?
Trainers are expected to maintain a CPD log throughout the year and submit this to ITC and the Institute for Learning once a year. As trainers we have to attend at least two ITC events a year.
What is your source material for the content you cover?
All source material is taken from current National Occupational Guidelines such as the UK Resuscitation Council and the Sector Skills Councils.
How many First Aiders do we need trained to what level?
The HSE have a useful online assessment tool on their First Aid microsite. You should also be familiar with the document First Aid at Work. The health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 Approved Code of Practice and Guidance 2nd Edition 2009. If you need any guidance from us, we will be pleased to help you undertake this assessment of your first aid needs.
How long are the courses?
Courses vary in time from 6 - 18 hours.
What time do courses start and finish?
All course start promptly at 0900 unless otherwise stated in pre course information. Finish times are dependent on the length of the course you are attending. All details of course times will be provided prior to the course.
How do you assess me & what happens if I do not meet the assessment criteria?
Some course are continuously assessed by the trainer using both sumative and fomative methods. The full HSE First Aid at Work course has an end of course multiple choice question paper and 3 practical assessments which are examined by external assessors. Ultimately, if you do not meet the assessment criteria you can fail the course. We understand exam nerves and therefore have policies in place to account for this and any other special requirements you may have. There is also a grievance procedure that you can ask to complete if you think you have been treated unfairly.
What happens if I am late to the course
Most First Aid courses are measured in both time and content. Our awarding body requires us to provide evidence that you have been there for the full course. If you are late, we are unable to provide this evidence which may affect the level of qualification you receive. We will of course endeavour to work with you during breaks and lunch to catch up the time lost.
How do I know when to requalify?
Training 4 Life will remind you that you need to undertake a re-qualification course 3 months prior to your current certificate with us expiring.
What happens if my HSE First Aid at Work has expired?
If your current First Aid at Work qualification has expired, the HSE allow a 28 day period following this to complete a re-qualification course. If you fall outside this period the you have to do the full courses again.
What about Basic Skills Updates?
The HSE 'HIGHLY RECOMMEND' that a Basic Skills refresher is undertaken once a year to avoid what is known as Skills Fade. We can help provide a trainer for you or your organisation at a relatively low cost.
Whose certificate do I get?
Your certificate will be issued by ITC First Aid Ltd who are the awarding body we work through.
Is it a certificate of achievement or attendance i.e. am I gaining a qualification or not?
Your certificate will be a certificate of achievement and therefore a recognised and valid qualification.
Who sets the standard for the qualification?
Our Awarding Body ITC First Aid Ltd sets the standards for all of our qualifications in accordance with standards stipulated by the HSE and the QCA.
When was the last time you were monitored and assessed delivering this course and who did that?
Training 4 Life trainers are formally internally verified at least 3 times a year by an experienced trainer. External verification of our teaching standards and assessment is undertaken by ITC First Aid Ltd at least once a year by way of announced & unannounced visits. The last time we undertook internal verification of trainers was jan 2010. Our Exernal verification visit for 2010 will take place in March. It could be on your course, so feel free to chat to the external verifier. We look to maintain a high standard and work with ITC First Aid Ltd for this very reason.
